MEET
Stephen C. Longenecker, M.D.
Dr. Stephen Longenecker is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction, joint replacement, and adult orthopedic trauma. A Berks County native, Dr. Longenecker has been caring for patients in the Reading community for more than three decades and currently serves as Medical Director of the Joint Center at Reading Hospital.
Dr. Longenecker earned his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Albright College and completed his medical degree, internship, and orthopedic surgery residency at Temple University School of Medicine and Temple University Hospital. He completed advanced fellowship training in Joint Reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, followed by a fellowship in Adult Orthopedic Trauma at Sunnybrook Medical Center in Toronto.
Since beginning his practice in 1992, Dr. Longenecker has dedicated his career to providing high-quality, compassionate orthopedic care with a focus on restoring mobility and improving quality of life. His clinical interests include primary and complex joint replacement, revision hip and knee surgery, and robotic-assisted joint replacement, and he has completed specialized training in the Mako robotic surgery system. In addition to his work with patients, he is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Orthopedic Division) at Drexel University, where he contributes to resident and medical student education.
Dr. Longenecker is a longtime member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, Eastern Orthopedic Society, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Berks County Medical Society. He also served for more than a decade with the Berks County Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and remains active in community leadership.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Longenecker enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and remains deeply connected to the Berks County community where he was born and raised.
