Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies Sponsor West Reading Pickleball Courts; Host Learn to Play Pickleball Event!

On September 9, 2025, Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies welcomed community members to the West Reading Pickleball Courts for a special Learn to Play Pickleball event designed to introduce participants to one of the nation's fastest-growing sports.

The event brought together players of all experience levels for an afternoon focused on movement, wellness, and community connection. Participants had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of pickleball through guided instruction before putting their new skills into practice during friendly competition on the courts.

Held at the West Reading Pickleball Courts, the event reflected the shared mission of Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies: helping individuals stay active, healthy, and engaged in the activities they enjoy. 

A Sport for Every Age

Pickleball continues to grow in popularity across the country, attracting participants of all ages thanks to its social nature, accessibility, and health benefits. Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, the sport offers a fun way to improve cardiovascular health, balance, coordination, and overall fitness.

For many participants, the event served as their introduction to the game, while experienced players enjoyed the opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and further develop their skills.

A Partnership Focused on Healthy Movement

The event also highlighted the strong partnership between Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies. Together, the organizations are committed to helping patients and community members maintain active lifestyles through orthopedic care, sports medicine expertise, physical therapy, and injury prevention education.

Throughout the event, attendees learned not only how to play pickleball but also the importance of proper movement, conditioning, and recovery strategies that can help reduce the risk of injury and support long-term wellness.

Earlier in 2025, Sports Medicine physicians Dr. Christopher Schumacher and Dr. Gary Canner were featured in Berks County Living, discussing the growing popularity of pickleball, its health benefits, and ways players can stay active while minimizing injury risk.
